What Is the POWER System?

I rely on the power system of my memory. My ministry Scripture Alive is all about bringing the word of God closer to people through dramatic performances of Biblical scenes. I can only do that when I have honed my memory. That’s why I came up with the P.O.W.E.R. system.

So, what is the P.O.W.E.R. system and how can it enhance your memory?

Impacting Lives Through the Word of God

I know that the word of God is very powerful. It can impact lives just as it had impacted mine and I wanted to share that with as many people as possible.

I realized there must be a way to re-engage more people with the word of God. Because people are shying away from reading, they are not getting the same connection with the Scriptures that I experienced. That’s when I came up with the idea to do dramatic presentations of scenes from the Bible.

What’s better than seeing the scenes from the Scriptures acted out? When people see the scenes from the Bible presented dramatically, they can become more interested in reading more about it. That was my theory and I’ve proven that through the years that I have performed in front of audiences.

But for me to be able to do that, I need several things. First of all, I must be able to memorize whole passages and even entire chapters from the Bible. Anyone will tell you that can be challenging.

The P.O.W.E.R. System

As I faced the challenges of memorizing the Bible, I came to develop my system for enhanced memorization. It took years for me to come up with this but now I am confident enough to offer it to others. I call this the P.O.W.E.R. System. It stands for:

  • Pick, Plan, and Pray
  • Overcoming Excuses
  • Work on It Daily
  •  Express It
  • Review It

Pick, Plan, and Pray

Because this is part of my ministry, it’s a given that I should start things out with a prayer.

Next, I pick the chapter or section that I want to memorize. Of course, for beginners, entire chapters can be too much to memorize. This method can still be used for memorizing shorter passages like verses. The same principles apply.

Once I have identified what I want to memorize, I create a plan on how to tackle the challenge of memorizing it. Do I do it in sections? How do I divide it into sections?

Overcoming Excuses

Coming up with excuses is a common problem not just for memorizing but for any undertaking. We rebel against anything that takes a great deal of effort. Why should we expend our energy when it comes to doing things when we can just rest and not do anything?

You will be amazed at the ingenuity of the mind when it comes to creating excuses to not do things. You might be committed to doing something in your mind but when the moment comes, you might end up creating excuses not to go on with your plans.

I think this is one of the things that you need guidance from God to overcome.

Work on It Daily

You will be surprised at the power and the capacity of your mind. You can memorize the entire Bible if you are committed but the key to achieving that is by being consistent. You need to work on memorization daily.

One of the things that I discovered is that I don’t have to memorize huge chunks each day. Just a few words are enough because when you add it all up at the end of the week or a month, you might have memorized an entire chapter.

Express It As you know, I do dramatic presentations of Biblical scenes and I have discovered that acting out the sections that I want to memorize helps me to remember those parts faster and easier. You need to try it for yourself to see that it works.

If you don’t want to act out, then you can say it out loud.

Review It

Are you doing it correctly? Are you memorizing the parts without missing anything? You need to sit down and assess how you are performing.

For this, you might need someone to assist you. The other person should listen to you as you recite the parts that you have memorized and compare them with the text.

This is just a brief overview of the P.O.W.E.R. System. If you are interested in mastering this method, then I suggest that you get my book, Power to Remember: Scripture Memory That Works. In this book, I outline my P.O.W.E.R. System in detail so anyone can use it.
